      Once you've chosen a project, email the supervisor or project lead to express your interest and offer support.

    4. Write a Professional Email
      You may wish to use the email writing plan below to help you structure a polite and focused message.

    • Address the supervisor formally (e.g., Dear Dr [Last Name],)

    2. Introduction: Who You Are

    • State your full name

    • Mention you’re a Foundation Year 1 or 2 doctor

    3. Why You're Getting in Touch

    • Say you came across their audit or research project (mention title or topic if known)

    • Say you’re reaching out to ask if you could support their project

    4. How You Can Help

    • Offer your support (e.g., data collection, literature review, analysis, etc.)

    • Emphasise that you’re reliable, enthusiastic, and detail any experience you may have.

    5. Your Motivation

    • Briefly share why you’re interested in the topic or in research/audit in general

    • Link to career development or a personal learning goal

    6. Close Politely

    • Ask if they would be happy to discuss this further
